To all you mother’s that read my column, I pray each of you had a most glorious day that’s dedicated only to mama. The weather was beautiful. I do believe that we are on our way to warm if not hot, days ahead. My day was good even though old vertigo has tried to get me down I still kept on pedaling. Gayle came down and attended church and had lunch with me. It is always a joy to have some of the kids here with us. Sunday’s sermon was a tearful time of remembrance. Butch brought his message from a favorite passage, Proverbs 31. We are all familiar with this one, giving the woman so much glory and praise. How rare it is to find a woman this scripture speaks and teaches of. For our neighborhood this was a sad weekend. First we said goodbye to Jackie Jones, who has been battling cancer for several years. Her service is today (Monday) in Blue Ridge. We send our love and sympathy to the George Jones family.
Jackie will be missed. Then after a long stretch of illness and cancer Jane Rountree left us. She leaves to grieve, her only living sibling, Betty Walker. Betty has been so faithful to “live” with Jane, where ever she was, and to Betty, we want you to know that we grieve with you, we all know that death is so hard on the family, but her reward is “out of this world”. On a happier note, congratulations to Ruby Guinn on her first great grand child. Yes, a nice Mother’s Day gift for the family. I don’t have any details and will fill you in when I have an up to date report. I think I heard this “gossip” yesterday seems Eleanor Johnson is always making favorite cakes for whoever and I heard that her son in law, Ramsey Simmons made a lemon pound cake especially requested by Eleanor such joy. A big birthday bash last Saturday for Betty McDaniel. Four of her children, four grand- children and 14 great grand children and one great great grand child helped her celebrate her 79th birthday. This must have been some celebration. Betty is the mother of Alice Waddell and she makes her home at the Oconee Assisted Living. Alice visits often and always takes little Annslee with her.
Next Sunday the 18th we will honor our graduates during the morning service and a luncheon afterwards. Congratulations to Cameron Busbee and Jared Jackson. Baptismal services will be held on June 1, 6p.m. We have four to be baptized. As we do not have a pool in our new building we will have this service at the home pool of Eleanor Johnson. Our May birthdays will also be celebrated at this time. Mark this date on your calendar: June 28 will be our One Day Vacation Bible School, beginning at 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Clarke Kesler invites you to Maysville Methodist Church in Maysville every Thursday night. I don’t always know who the guest singers are but it’s always good. Rodney Bowles will be at the ABC Auction this Saturday night at 6 p.m. Happy birthday to Dylan Stewart on the 15 and to Judy Cottrell the 16. Always remember our sick, our grieving, our nation, our military, our church, our pastor and each other when you pray. So until next week may the Lord bless you real good.
