Rita Knight guides this one-of-a-kind workshop that pairs up Mother-Daughter teams to create a Dream Dress painted on canvas which can be used as a great décor item that is also a very personal fashion statement! Express your fashion runway inner voice at this fun project for moms and their best “gal pals” to make together and keep as a memento of their special bond that lasts a lifetime! • Morgan County High School Classes of 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951 and 1952 will have their annual combined class reunion on May 17, 2014.  Arrangements have been made for a buffet meal at Bonner’s Restaurant in Buckhead and is scheduled for 12:30.  Please plan to be there early, visit, eat and enjoy! Contact the person in charge of your class by May 10, 2014 with your number of reservations.

• Master Garderners will hold Hypertufa Workshop – make beautiful lightweight containers for your plants! Learn how to make a beautiful garden container that can last for years with this wonderful hypertufa technique. Hypertufa is a porous and attractive pot choice for many potted plants. Hypertufa construction is an old and highly desirable skill to have. Once you learn the basics of mixing ingredients, building molds and curing your project, you can design and produce custom containers at home. This 2-day workshop will focus on container making, For just $25 you can join our planter making class (which includes everything you will need to make a planter along with instructions), and you can take yours home! Pre-registration is required – so please call us at 706-342-8555 to sign up, no later than May 12. The workshop will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 17 and last about three hours, and on Sunday, May 18 at 3 p.m. we will take our planters from their molds and complete the process. This will all be done at the Morgan County Extension Office at 440 Hancock Street in Madison.

• The Athens Youth Symphony, under the direction of Karl Schab, will present a Spring Concert on Sunday, May 18 at 4:00 p.m. in Hugh Hodgson Concert Hall of the UGA Performing Arts Center. The concert will feature young musicians from all over North Georgia and will include The Complete Harry Potter, as well as works by Verdi and Copland. Pianist  Alois Cerbu will be featured in Beethoven’s Allegro con brio from Piano Concerto No. 3 in c minor, Op. 37. The concert is free and open to the public. • ”Antiques & Collectibles in the County” The William Harris Homestead  will host a fund-raiser entitled “Antiques & Collectibles in the Country on May 24, from 9-5 and May 25, 9-4.  The Homestead is located at 3636 Ga. Hwy 11, Monroe, Ga. • Morgan County Middle School Cheerleaders will hold a Yard Sale/ Car Wash on Saturday, May 31, 2014.  8:00 AM – 2:00 PM at Advanced Auto Parts Parking Lot.

• Annual Morgan County NAACP Parade & Festivities Parade starts at noon Parade line up starts at 10:00 a.m.at MCPS parking lot. Festivities begin at 10:00 a.m. at Town Park. We are celebrating the MCHS Boys Basketball Team and will honor and celebrate Rev. G.C. Brown for being the oldest active African American pastor in Morgan County. SO COME ONE- COME ALL! The NAACP is looking for floats, fancy cars, etc. to show that black history is rich locally as well. We are looking forward to the entire state of Georgia celebrating with us. Don’t forget to check your voter registration status. If you are not registered to vote, see the NAACP booth at the parade. Remember to exercise your right to vote. Primary elections are Tuesday, May 20th. Early voting has already started. You may review your voter registration status, voting precinct, and sample ballot at http://mvp.sos.state.ga.us.
