Runners from as far away as Colorado and Maryland came to Madison last Saturday, May 10, to compete in the Madison in May races. A total of 253 runners competed in the 5K and 10.2K, which were held by the Madison Lions Club to benefit the Morgan County chapter of Young Life. The event, a collaborative effort between Lions Club and Young Life is in its 13th year of providing runners from the Morgan County area and beyond an opportunity to enjoy downtown Madison during the springtime. The number of runners taking part in the races this year dropped for last year, when more than 400 entered the races.
Eric Stabb, 46, of Athens, placed first in the 5K race with a time of 15:59.2, and Rutledge resident Dalton Shaw, 15, took second at 18:49.8. Abby Mowinski, 39, was the first female finisher during the 5K. Mowinski, who traveled from Atlanta for the race, finished at 21:40.1 Keith Griffin, 51, of Milledgeville took first in the 10.2K, finishing in 42:30.1 Justin Kruger, 36, Dacula, took second in the 10.2K with a time of 43:35.8. The first female competitor to finish the 10.2K was Ryan Smith, 27, of Athens, with a time of 49:37.9. Smith finished 10th overall in the 10.2K.
