The Morgan Memorial Hospital (MMH) kicked off the nationally-recognized Hospital Week on May 12 to show appreciation for healthcare workers by recruiting The Varsity Truck from Atlanta to set up shop on the MMH lawn, serving hospital employees their notorious hotdogs and burgers for lunch. “This event is open to all 180 employees,” said Sarah Phillips, human resource manager for MMH. “It’s the least we can do thank our employees.” This is the second year the Varsity Truck has come to MMH for an employee luncheon. Andy Ainslie, chairman of the Morgan County Board of Commissioners, delivered a proclamation to declare the start of Hospital Week in Morgan County. Ainslie expressed his gratitude for Morgan County healthcare workers and urged others to do the same. “I want to thank all our incredible healthcare workers for their dedication and hard work. I urge all residents to show their appreciation for our healthcare workers,” said Ainslie. Terry Evans, chairman of the Hospital Authority, remarked that it is healthcare workers who are taking care of other people’s families all throughout the year, including weekends and holidays.
“Saying thank you is simply not enough,” said Evans. “You all do such a good job..we have the best people in the state of Georgia working here at MMH.” Ralph Castillo, CEO of MMH, said this event was only the beginning of showing appreciation for healthcare workers in Morgan County. “We want to show our employees how much we value their dedication and hard work,” said Castillo. Phillips hopes the community will join in efforts to show appreciation for healthcare workers, not just this week, but all year around. “Our hospital is very important to our community, to provide healthcare and even jobs and we want the community to help us show our employees how thankful we are for them.” MMH also offered a breakfast buffet to employees on Tuesday, May 13. Upcoming events include the Shepeard Blood Drive and Cookout at MMH on Wednesday, May 14 at 11:30a.m., the Ice Cream Social and Raffle on Thursday, May 15, at 2:15p.m., a Potluck Lunch and Dessert Contest on Friday, May 16 at 11:30a.m., and a Chik fil A lunch for the weekend staff on Saturday, May 17 at 11a.m.
