Last week’s special called meeting in Rutledge had council members taking information home to review before this week’s regularly scheduled meeting. On May 13 the Rutledge city council met to discuss paving bids and the budget. The council heard bids from three companies- Cecil Key Paving, Pittman Construction Co. and A and B Contractors. Each company gave bids for two roads, East Main Street and Fairplay Road. Beyond fixing the roads the companies quoted how much it would cost the city to fix the manholes.

Cecil Key quoted the town $63,082.02 for East Main Street, $82,899.76 for Fairplay Road and $425 for manholes. Pittman Construction bid $45,935 for East Main, $59,595 for Fairplay Road and $1,800 per manhole. A and B Contractor quoted Rutledge $82,908.46 for East Main Street, $113,921.28 for Fairplay Road and $350 for six manholes.

The present council members- Tim Smith, Bruce Altznauer and Chad Cook briefly discussed the different contractors. Rutledge has used A and B Contractors for work on the park tennis courts, sidewalks and speed bumps. Pittman Construction was on a state sent list.
