Greetings from The Springs! To kick off our Youth Week at USBC, our Youth Day speaker was Minister Gary Walker. His sermon was titled, “It’s not about Us, But About Jesus,” and his scripture references came from Matthew 12: 38-40 and Jonah 3: 1-3. Minister Walker stated that God wants to use His people to reach those that are not saved, but first we need to get out of the way. Often our comfort zone is too small for God, and He wants us to move out of that small area. Another thing that we must do is kill the flesh daily because the flesh wants us to go back to doing things in the old way. In doing so, we have to remember that God always has us on His mind. Even at our lowest point, the Lord is considering us. In keeping with our Bible Study on “Fasting”, Minister Walker included in the message how the people of Nineveh went on a 40-Day fast.
This was done after Jonah proclaimed that the city would be destroyed after that same length of time. After this corporate fast and the repenting of the people there, God delayed judgment on them for a century. (This is an example of divine intervention.) Not only was this a timely message to us, but it further reinforced our Bible study lessons. Also, as a part of Youth Day, Patrice Boswell gave words of encouragement to the youth.
As I have told you recently, Ms. Boswell is one of our recent college graduates, and she is well on her way to mentoring our future college students. We will start our next series in two weeks. I’m not sure what it will be but I know that it will be exciting! By the way, don’t forget that Pastor T and First Lady Toni Terrell will be celebrating their 11th anniversary at The Springs on Sunday, June 22, 2014. Join us! Glory Be To God!
