The Fifth Annual Bulldog Basketball camp was held this week ath the Morgan County High School Gymnasium, beginning last Monday, June 9. More than 65 kids from second grade to eighth grade are taking part in the week-long camp, which has been coached by Jonathan Nelson, Anthony Williams, and Milfred Franklin.
Franklin said that the campers begin each day with a system of stretches and plyometrics before moving on to drills based on different sets of skills. This week, several members of the Morgan County High School (MCHS) and Morgan County Middle School (MCMS) basketball teams have come out to support the coaches during the camp, allowing the kids to play beside some of the basketball players they have seen play in MCMS and MCHS regular-season games.
Some of the athletes who have assisted this week are: Candi Wyatt, Tyra Smith, Alexis Brown, Tookie Brown, DeDe Reynolds, Yusuf Baig, Jamie Puckett and Salina Fortune. Coach Franklin said that, at the camp, they also try to instill into the children a sense of responsibility for their education. “We encourage all kids to keep working hard in the classroom and on their basketball skills when they leave the camp,” said Franklin. “If they work hard consistently on those two things, everything else will fall into place.”
