The Morgan County High School (MCHS) competition cheerleading team has been preparing for their 2014 competition schedule this week with a three-day camp at home. Beginning on Monday, June 23, the 14 members of the Morgan County competition cheerleading team came together in the MCHS new gym to start working on the competition routine that they will present during the upcoming season. Coach Denise Frost said that Marquis Strong, an instructor from United Cheerleading, a coaching organization based in Columbus, will be working with the team during the camp this week to ensure that the girls understand the fundamentals of the routine. Following this week’s camp, the Morgan County spirit cheerleading teams from the high school and middle school will travel to Shorter University in Rome for a four-day FCA spirit camp, from Monday, July 7, to Thursday, July 10.
“The girls are excited about the team spirit camp at Shorter,” said Coach Frost. “We will be taking 28 girls from the high school and 23 from the middle school. This is the first time that the high school and middle school have gone to camp together.” The annual Cheerleading Kiddie Camp, the final summer event for the MCHS cheerleaders, will begin on Monday, July 21, and run through Friday, July 28. Information on signing up for the Kiddie Camp will become available as the week of the event approaches.
