Marlins host GRPA district championships

The Morgan County Marlins hosted the 2014 Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA) Sixth District Class B/C Championship at the Morgan County Aquatic Center last Saturday, June 28. This was the second year in a row Morgan County was the location for the district championship. Morgan County swimmers placed highly enough in 33 events to move on to the state meet, the GRPA Class B/C State Championship, which will take place at the Baldwin Drive Aquatic Center in Tifton on July 18 and July 19. Swimmers had to place in the top three in an event to advance to the state meet. Clinton Paine finished in first place in the Boys 7-8 50-yard freestyle with a time of 43.57 and second in the 25-yard freestyle at 19.89. Leah Wall placed first in the Girls 9-10 50-yard freestyle at 35.55 and also won the 25-yard backstroke race at 21.20. Sydney Griffith placed second in the Girls 9-10 50-yard freestyle at 36.06 and won the 25-yard butterfly with a time of 19.66. David Otalora-Garcia took first in the Boys 13-14 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:12.65 and second in the 50-yard freestyle at 31.16. Zac Seymour placed second in the Boys 15-18 100-yard freestyle at 57.63 and second in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 29.07.

Rebekah Wall won the Girls 7-8 25-yard freestyle with a time of 21.30 and placed second in the 25-yard backstroke at 27.11. Addie Kate Robinson placed first in the Girls 9-10 25-yard freestyle with a time of 16.57 and won the 25-yard breaststroke at 26.06. Colton Patterson took second place in the Boys 9-10 25-yard freestyle at 17.66, and first in the 25-yard breaststroke with a time of 24.80. Emma Kate Leach won the Girls 11-12 50-yard freestyle with a time of 29.33 and took second in the 50-yard breaststroke at 42.27. Rose Marie Kuntz placed second in the Girls 11-12 50-yard freestyle in 35.33 and first in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 42.82. Abigail Glass took third in the Girls 11-12 50-yard freestyle in 37.96 and took fourth in the 50-yard backstroke at 47.90. Trey Torok placed fifth in the Boys 11-12 50-yard freestyle with a time of 45.25 and second in the 50-yard breaststroke at 56.11.

Rachel Wood placed second in the Girls 9-10 50-yard breaststroke at 26.17 and took third in the 25-yard backstroke in 22.86. Haylee Prince took second in the Girls 13-14 50-yard freestyle with at time of 32.31 and won the 50-yard breaststroke in 45.46. Hunter Prince won the Boys 13-14 50-yard freestyle at 26.81 and also won the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 30.16. Kilee Norman placed second in the Girls 15-18 50-yard freestyle with a time of 33.66 and won the 50 yard backstroke in 39.62. Kylie Harris took third in the Girls 15-18 50-yard freestyle in 1:47.55 and placed second in the 50-yard backstroke at 1:32.37. Skyler Patterson placed first in the Girls 11-12 50-yard breaststroke at 40.53 and won the 50-yard backstroke in 35.30. Cassidy Robinson took third in the Girls 11-12 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 43.62 and took second in the 50-yard backstroke at 40.04. Lauren West won the Girls 13-14 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1:17.32 and took second in the 50-yard butterfly at 33.09.

MaKenna Waszgis took first in the Girls 15-18 100-meter individual medley with a time of 1:35.70 and placed second in the 50-yard butterfly in 47.91. The relay team of Leah Wall, Rachel Wood, Sydney Griffith, and Addie Kate Robinson took first in the Girls 10 and Under 100-yard medley relay with a time of 1:22.89 and also won the 100-yard freestyle relay in 1:12.82. Skyler Patterson, Haylee Prince, Lauren West, and Emma Kate Leach won the Girls 14 and Under 200-yard medley relay and also the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:59.40.
