Sad news. Sheri Clark, owner of The Madison Gift Mart & Café told me yesterday that she’s closing the café. Saturday, August 16 will be the last day. But don’t despair y’all. Sheri is gonna keep serving coffee, tea, soft drinks, Cecilia’s Cakes and other desserts. Oh and y’all they have free Wi-Fi and it’s the perfect place to have a business meeting! Well I sure hate to see this great restaurant close, but will definitely drop by often for a cup of Joe and yummy slice of a bona-fied Cecilia’s cake! And, talk ‘bout another sad hit.

Anthony International is moving 150 jobs out of Morgan County and into Conyers. See the whole story and the quote from the Anthony International CEO on page A2 in this week’s Citizen. But on the bright side, Madison was a superstar last week in the Sunday edition of the Atlanta Journal/Constitution. Ding dang! The Atlanta Journal/Constitution featured an entire page – I say an entire full-color page – on Madison! Small Town. Big Culture. Yes! This is gonna generate some major tourism from a powerful and huge Atlanta metro market area and that’s dang good news for our retailers, restaurants and lodging businesses! Well Momma has flat got to split! Y’all check back with me next week! But, if you flat gotta get the scoop, just come on over to the Citizen office at 259 North Second Street in front of the beautiful Brady Inn in downtown Madison and join in the Citizen’s 70s dance line! Come on! Don’t be shy!
