As summer fades, the Morgan County Middle Cheerleaders will walk back into school with pride this year coming off two top awards at their Fellowship of the Christian Athletes (FCA) camp. Over summer break the Morgan County Middle School (MCMS) cheerleaders traveled to FCA camp in Rome, Georgia. At FCA camp the team won awards for The Best of the Best Cheer and The Best of the Best Routine.

The top awards severed as a great start to their upcoming season. “My proudest moment of the week came when it all came together for them,” said MCMS Head Cheerleading Coach Betty Webb. “As they proudly accepted their trophies, it was evident that they were proud of themselves and of each other.” At FCA camp the girls began learning cheers and dance routines. As the week went on the girls were lead by camp leaders and were shown how to incorporate their MCMS chants and cheers into sideline and half-time routines.

Morgan County was only one of many teams to participate in the camp. The other teams were taught the same type of skills as the Bulldogs. FCA camp was an experience that helped the girls to bond together as a team. It was through this bonding that they became dependent upon each other as a team.

At the end of the week, all the teams had a chance to showcase their skills and abilities. This was done in the form of a competition. The competition allowed the MCMS Bulldog cheerleaders to showcase their teamwork and cheerleading talents. It was during this competition that the girls won The Best of the Best Cheer and The Best of the Best Routine awards.

Now that they girls are back in school the coaches are working to finalize the practice schedules for the competition and spirit team. As the school year begins the girls will undergo training with a competition trainer they worked with over the summer. This training will prepare the competition team for their upcoming season. The competition team is excited for the quickly approach season where they hope to combine what was learned at camp with their continued training.

As for the spirit team they are turning their focus to football season. They will lead the school in an upcoming pep rally to get the entire school pumped and ready for the season. Once the season starts the girls will be found cheering on their beloved Bulldogs on the sidelines.
