Join the Friends of Madison Firefighters as they host the 9th Annual Firefighters Fall 5K and 10.2K on Saturday October 11th. Don’t miss the opportunity to participate in either the 5K or 10.2K race, which will follow a scenic course through historic downtown Madison. Approximately 250 runners are expected to participate in the race, which will start and finish near Town Park. Registration and packet pickup begins at 6:30 am while the 5K begins at 7:30 am and the 10.2K starts at 8:30 am. Awards will be given in the categories of Overall male, Overall female, Masters Male, Masters Female and top three Male and Female in the age groups beginning at 10 and under through 70 and over. The 5K Race is USATF certified and counts as a Peachtree Qualifier. Additionally, race participants can easily access their run times, which will be posted online after the event. Proceeds from the event will go to the William B. Cochran, Jr. Vocational Scholarship and will help promote fire safety. The William B. Cochran Scholarship honors Bill Cochran who served with the Madison Fire Department for 30 years. Through the Bill Cochran Vocational Scholarship, two $1,000 scholarships were given this year to two Morgan County residents. If you are unable to take part in the race but would still like to help the cause, the Friends of Madison Firefighters are also welcoming Race Sponsors. Interested runners can register for the race on race day or ahead of time online at www.active.com.
