By Tia Lynn Lecorchick managing editor Morgan County Elementary School (MCES) students dressed-up like Duck Dynasty cast members, the AE hit reality show, last week to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund. According to Principal Ty Snyder, this event raised about $800 last year, and the goal this year was to raise $1000. Snyder gave the students extra incentive to participate by promising to allow the students to dump a bucket of ice water of his head if they met the $1000 fundraising goal. The total amount raised will not be announced until after Fall Break. The fundraiser was created by a few diabetic students who wanted to join the fight to find a cure for the disease. “It’s just great that the students want to help out their fellow students…so maybe there will be a cure one day,” said Snyder. Students could participate by donating $2 to wear full costumes or just Duck Dynasty t-shirts and hats for the day. “The kids got real creative with it last year,” said Snyder. Snyder was proud that even more kids participated this year. We’ll find out after Fall Break if it was enough to ensure an icy bucket of water to be poured over Snyder’s head.
