• Student Series Performance “Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great” 9:30 am & 11:30 am The ArtsPower musical production of Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great will be performed at the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center on Thursday, October 16 2o14 at 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM.   Being a 10 year-old kid is kind of a pain. Having an older sister is really a pain. Being afraid of everything is … well, just plain painful! Sheila Tubman, otherwise known as Sheila the Great, comes of age in this lively and poignant musical about discovering the person within. This Student Series performance, sponsored by Georgia Power and Morgan Stanley, takes place in the Center’s original 1895 school auditorium and last approximately one hour.  Individual general admission tickets may be purchased. • OLLI@UGA, Madison Lecture “Aristophanes and Greek Comedy” by Dr. Charles Platter The Cultural Center is pleased to expand educational programming through thought-provoking lectures presented by OLLI@UGA, Madison.  Join us for the third lecture in 2014 Fall Series, on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 2:45 PM in the Cultural Center Auditorium, “Aristophanes and Greek Comedy.” Dr. Charles Platter, UGA Classics faculty, will trace the history of comedy in Athens, focusing on the work of Aristophanes, the greatest comic writer of his generation.  This lecture series, available to adults ages 50 and up, have no prerequisites, no exams, and no grades.  A special OLLI membership rate of $25 is required, and each lecture is $10. • Calvary Baptist Church Madison will celebrate its 149th Church Anniversary/ Family and Friends Day on Sunday October 19th at 11am. The community is invited.

• Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church family in Buckhead where the Rev. Timothy Kindall is pastor, will celebrate their 146th church anniversary on Sunday, October 19 at 11:30 a.m. Guest minister is the Rev. Joseph Flint, of Atlanta will deliver the message. Public is invited to attend. Dinner will follow in the Walter C. Butler, Jr. Fellowship Hall.

• The Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation’s (OCAF) Annual Fall Wine Fest fundraising event will be held Sunday, October 19 from 3pm to 6pm. Enjoy a feast of the senses sampling food from  dozens of local eateries, tasting fine wines from local vineyards and wineries from all over the world, and sampling beverages from local breweries. Celebrating its 15th year, the Fall Wine Fest will again be held on the sumptuous grounds of Ashford Manor in Watkinsville, GA. • Southern Circuit Independent Film Screening “Stay Then Go” 7 PM The Madison-Morgan Cultural Center will continue their 2014-15 Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers season with the screening of Stay Then Go on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 7:00 pm.  Stay Then Go is an emotional mystery that explores a mother’s experience raising her autistic son, examining the limits of love and sacrifice. Tickets are $5. A Q&A session and reception with the filmmaker Shelli Ainsworth will follow the screening.  Beer, wine, and soft drinks will be available for purchase and popcorn will be free! • Learn how to Can vegetables with both hot water bath and pressure canning. Find out about the latest cannery gadgets that makes jar canning easier.  Class to be held Thursday, Nov. 6 @ 9am to 12 noon. First 3 persons to register are free.  Low income individuals are also free of charge. Charge of class is normally $25, but due to first fall class, charge will only be $15.  You must register at 706-557-7602 before day of event. Class limited to 12.
