Morgan County High School Cross Country boy’s and girls’ teams finished first at Thursday’s home meet in Indian Creek Park. The Middle School team finished third. Yakira Chapman finished first overall in the girls’ race with a time of 23:17.7, and Dalton Shaw finished first overall in the boy’s race at 18:44.6. Hannah Martin Finished first overall for the Middle School girls’ race at 11:22.2, and Noah Brown finished sixth overall and first for Morgan County in the Middle School Boy’s race with a time of 11:07.2. Tripp Lancaster, a third grader, also raced Thursday, finishing 30th in the Middle School Boy’s Race. “Everybody did a great job Thursday,” said Coach Dusty Hawkins. “This being our home course, they know the ins and outs of it better than anyone else.” Hawkins went on to explain that Indian Creek is a difficult course, but the Morgan County team knows it very well. This week, the team will travel to Jackson, Georgia in Butts County. “We are going to take an easy pace, and stay rested for Region on Monday,” said Hawkins. Next Monday Morgan County will travel to Jefferson, Ga. for Region, and the entire team is preparing for that race. “We are trying to come up with a strategy for that course,” said Coach Hawkins. He explained that the team has run this course three times already this season and are going to use every bit of experience they have during the race.
