The Girls’ Cross Country Team will advance to the State Race on Nov. 8 in Carrolton, Ga. At 10 am. The Morgan County High School girl’s Cross Country team came in fourth place in Monday’s region meet in Jackson County, and with an average time of 24:41.61, will advance to State. The boy’s team did not manage to place in the top four in their race and will not advance. Yakira Chapman was first from the Morgan County team and placed 12th overall Monday with a time of 23:00.76. Also on the girl’s team travelling to state is Mariella Plumley, Carolina Zant, Jessie Pagett, Emma Adams, Lakashia Willis, and Mary Zimmerman. Coach Dusty Hawkins said that he is proud of what both teams have accomplished this year, and hopes that the girl’s team will continue their success in the State Race. “At this point, we are going to try to maintain,” said Hawkins. “We are going to shoot for the girls to get in the top 10 at State, which I think is a realistic goal.” He went on to say that Morgan County’s region is amongst the toughest cross country regions in the State, and that the team is well prepared for the race ahead of them. “Hopefully we’ll have better conditions at State,” said Coach Hawkins. This year was, according to coaches at East Jackson, one of the hottest region meets they could remember. Hawkins mentioned that a few runners from Morgan County struggled with the heat.
