Belton gets House seat

Dave Belton, the Republican candidate for State Representative for District 112, beat out Patsy Harris, the District 112 Democratic candidate, in Nov. 4’s Midterm Elections by a landslide. Belton earned 70.52 percent of the vote (a total of 4,436 votes) in Morgan County and Harris earned 29.36 percent of the votes (1,847 total votes in Morgan County. Belton received 71.73 percent of the votes (7,781 total votes) in Newton County. Harris received 28.27 percent of the votes (3,067 total votes) in Newton County. Voter turnout in Morgan County was 60.38 percent, with a total of 6,416 ballots cast in the various elections. In other races of interest, Morgan County went to David Perdue, the Republican candidate for US Senate, with 68.43 percent of the county’s votes. Michelle Nunn, the Democratic candidate for US Senate only earned 29.77 percent of Morgan County’s votes. Nathan Deal, Republican candidate for Governor, received 68.13 percent of Morgan County’s votes. Jason Carter, the Democratic candidate for Governor, earned 29.77 percent of the vote in Morgan County.
