Students from near and far traveled to the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center on Monday Nov 1 to watch Theatreworks actors bring the popular novel “The Lightning Thief” to life. The MMCC has partnered with Theatreworks to bring entertainment and fun to Morgan County. This musical features Percy Jackson, a student who is about to be kicked out of his boarding school when suddenly the Monsters and Gods from his mythology textbook come to life. Students were delighted to see one of their favorite books performed right here in their hometown. “The shows today were simply amazing. We had a full house for both the 9:30 and 11:30 am showings. ,”said MMCC Performance Director Rebecca Bonas. The audience was in awe of the performance as actors from TheatreWorks did what they do best on stage. Students were pleased to watch the professionals at work as the story unraveled before their eyes. “The Lightning Thief is a brand-new show by TheatreWorks USA, and today’s show at the Cultural Center was their Southern USA premiere,” stated Bonas. The MMCC is proud to host the student series and bring such impressive performances to Madison and Morgan County. “So many students and teachers said it was the best show they had ever seen. The troupe of 6 actors were unbelievably talented and put on 2 high-energy performances that completely captivated the audience,” continued Bonas. Students in the audience weren’t just from Morgan County but from all over the area. “Students from Morgan County, Greene County, and local homeschool groups were among those in attendance today,” said Bonas. Don’t miss the opportunity to see the next Student Series performance on Monday April 13 when the adventures of Curious George come to Madison.
