After returning from a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Hollywood over Thanksgiving break to march in the Hollywood Christmas Parade, the Morgan County High School band performed in Atlanta during the annual Children’s Christmas Parade, sponsored by Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, on Saturday, Dec. 6. “I can’t tell you how proud I am of those kids. They are really representing us in a dignified and respectable way,” said Jim Malanowski, MCHS principal. “Wherever they are…they just light it up.” The band performed holiday favorites while marching down Peachtree St. and 16th St. in midtown Atlanta for cheering crowds. The Morgan County Band represented for the third year in the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Parade,” said band Director Jeffrey Rowser. “The annual parade is a fundraiser with many sponsors with all proceeds donated to the Children’s Healthcare Hospital.” Rowser is thankful for the opportunity the annual parade provides his burgeoning music pupils. “The students always seem to enjoy the opportunity to perform before hundreds of thousands and be viewed on regional WSB-TV2. It a truly proud moment for us and then off to a nice food court meal at Stonecrest Mall,” said Rowser. “We are proud the be selected for the third consecutive year. Any band participating is chosen based on an audition process of application and video evidence of a marching band show,” said Rowser. According to the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, the annual parade has a large viewership, both on the ground and through television. “With floats, giant helium-filled balloons and marching bands, the Children’s Christmas Parade will be the largest holiday parade in the southeast. Along with a television audience of more than 500,000 viewers on WSB-TV, hundreds of thousands of spectators will be lined up along the streets eagerly awaiting the arrival of Santa and the official beginning of the holiday season in Atlanta,” reported the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta website. Be sure to check the band’s local performance this Saturday. The MCHS marching band is set to play on Saturday, Dec. 13 during the Holiday Parade in Madison beginning at 4 p.m.
