Special to the Citizen: The Madison-Morgan Cultural Center and the Madison Artists Guild (MAG) will host an opening reception on Friday, January 23, for the new, juried art exhibit HOME. The fundamental desire and need for a “home” is considered a universal human characteristic. Whether spiritual or physical, a “home” can represent an individual’s ultimate place of security, comfort, and sense of belonging.  This exhibit gives MAG artists an opportunity to explore their ideas about the concept of “home” and interpret them through their artwork.

The public is invited to attend the FREE Opening Reception from 6 – 8 p.m. on Friday, January 23at the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center. The HOME exhibit, sponsored by Coldwell Banker Lake Oconee Realty/Lake Country, is scheduled to be on display through May 3. Thomas Gonzalez and Shannon Candler have juried the show. Gonzalez was born in Havana, Cuba, and moved to the United States as a child. An artist, painter, and artistic director, he directed campaigns for Coca-Cola, Delta, NASCAR, the NFL, and McDonald’s.  He currently works as an illustrator and lives in Atlanta. Candler is a Georgia artist whose travels have allowed her to take classes and workshops from instructors around the world.  This has exposed her to a wide variety of painting styles and techniques.
