The MCMS basketball team defeated Carver Middle School on Wednesday, January 7, with a rough start but “this was expected coming off Christmas break” said MCMS coach Milfred Franklin. But Franklin doesn’t see that as a concern and by Friday January 9, the basketball team was triumphing again. They beat Youth Middle School 33-32 in a close game with Alec Woodard making two free throws only 1.5 seconds before the end of the game. According to Coach Franklin, the team focuses “on playing better every time [they] step on the floor.” Their biggest rival is Carson Middle School, who they competed against this past Saturday. Coach Franklin stated that the “players played with great intensity, but at times we got so caught up in the game we forgot about our assignments and game plan,” and with a technical against Greene in the fourth quarter the team gained unsurpassable momentum. Alec Woodard’s free throws along with Len’Neth Whitehead’s great defensive play led to yet another victory. Coach Franklin thanks the Morgan County Parks and Recreation Department and parents for supporting the recreation basketball night and appreciates their players cheering on the middle school basketball team. There are three games still left in the season, with the middle school hosting a “BLACK OUT” on Wednesday, January 21 against Monticello. The team asks that all attending the event to wear black attire for support.
