On Saturday, Jan. 10 the Morgan County Middle School Wrestling team traveled to George Walton Academy to compete in the Peach State League Individuals Tournament.

“This was the last Individuals tournament of the season for the team,” said Coach Mark Roper.

Donovan McElligott (112 lbs.) and Mathew Bailey (90 lbs.) both finished in second place in their respective brackets.

Javior Laguin, Cole Howell, Finn Wiliams, and Mason Adams all finished in third place.

With the whole team finishing fourth out of seven attending teams.

“Some first-time wrestlers were able to make good strides and second and third-year wrestlers get some good quality wins throughout the season” commented Coach Roper.

The team will travel to Elbert County to compete in the Peach State League Duals tournament this Friday to wrap up the season.

“This will be the last event of the year for the team and [we] are looking forward to some of the best wrestling of the season,” said Roper.

Roper is hoping the boys will give it their all at the last match of the season and return stronger next year. Roper hopes the boys will continue wrestling in high school as they continue to grow stonger and hone the sport.
