This past Thursday the JV Diamond Dogs went up against Salem and pulled out another win 4-2 win. Weather was definitely an issue during the contest as the boys played through rain the entire game. Coach Merritt talked about some things the team did well and others that needed some work, “We faced another junk ball pitcher that threw much slower than we’re accustomed to, and we had a difficult time adjusting at the plate. These guys will have to be able to make those adjustments when facing all types of pitching to be a consistently good team at the varsity level next year. We should have put ten plus runs on the board, but we didn’t make the in-game adjustments we needed to at the plate. It’s something we’ll have to work on. I’m proud of the team for gutting out the elements and getting the win though. All five pitchers threw the ball well.” For the game Hunter Christian, Bear Hooks, Carter Kirkpatrick, Grant Cofer, and Taylor Knight had good outings on the mound for the Dogs. Cofer and catcher Dakota Young each had RBI singles at crucial moments during the game to set up the win. Ainslie added, “Dakota is a heck of a catcher who blocks balls and keeps them in front of him even when no runners are on base. Those are the little things that I look at from the catching position that lets me know if the catcher is just average or above average. Dakota loves to compete and is a smart, heads-up player.” The JV Tournament Championship was played this past Saturday at North Oconee in a double-header format. The outcome of the Championship will be reported as soon as the results are in.
