Greetings from The Springs! During Prayer and Testimony Service on Wednesday May 6, USBC was honored to have representatives from The Gideons International to join us. We watched a short video stressing the need of more Bibles all over the world especially since there are so many children that don’t know about Jesus and of His love for the world. That presentation was followed by a fiery “mini-sermon” given by Brother Steve Blanton who also shared stories of the lives of a few men who were changed simply by receiving a Bible.

We were given more information on how donations to their organization can be made with Tribute Cards to show love and honor of someone special. You can send a card “In Memory”, “In Recognition” or “Thinking of You.” If you come to The Springs, all of their information is in the vestibule. Another great way to contact the organization is at www.gideons.org. If anyone has been reading the paper lately you have seen a superstar in the making plastered all over it. Yes, that would be USBC’s very own Aris Hubbard. At the regional meet recently at East Jackson High School she came in first place in four events including the 100 meters, 200 meters, long jump and as a member of the 4 x 100 meter relay. The state competitions were held the end of last week, so there’s more to come. We are so proud of her!

On third Sunday, USBC will host a special appreciation for Pastor G. C. Brown. The program begins at 3 p.m., so come and honor the longest standing pastor in Morgan County. The M. C. for this event is slated to be radio celebrity, Larry Tinsley. On Mother’s Day, May 10, Pastor Robert Terrell ended up giving us two messages which really blessed the souls of the mothers present. In the first, I’ll call it a mini-sermon, Pastor Terrell started with telling us that Jesus Christ had to be born of a woman. Not of the seed of man, because the Seed of God had to be planted in Him. This was done to give Jesus His humanity.

Without His humanity, He could not have fully taken our sins to the cross. Because of the humanity that a woman gave Him, He could take of sins to that Roman cross. Your mother is just as important because she gave you the humanity of God. Some of our mothers have gone on and just maybe, if it is possible, they are leaning over the balcony of heaven looking over at USBC saying, “Glory to God in the highest! Thank you for saving my daughter! Thank you for saving my son!” So, all of us today can say thank you, to momma. We know we celebrate you always but we want to make sure that we take this day to give you extra honor! In his main sermon, Pastor Terrell preached a familiar passage in the third chapter of Daniel which describes the three Hebrew men and the fiery furnace. For us, that fiery furnace is that courtroom. It’s the fiery trials that we go through. It’s the fiery tribulations that we go through. There are times when God wants to show the enemy His power. King Nebuchadnezzar was the one that had them thrown into the furnace. He knew that he cast three men in the trap, but he then said that he saw four men loosed in there. They were walking around in the midst of their circumstance.

That situation didn’t make them have a pity party. The men that knew God for themselves and knew that He is the way, were praising the Lord. Because they praised God, He came and got in the midst. Pastor Terrell dared us to praise God in the middle of our circumstances to see Him right there in the middle of it with us. It was thought that the men were thrown to their knees but the Word states that they fell down in verse 23. In your current situation, will you dare not to complain, not to throw in the towel, but believe in what God will do and fall down on your knees? No matter what, will you fall down on your knees before the Lord? It has even been said that God took the heat out of the fire, but Pastor begged to differ on this. He said it had to be hot to burn the bands to loose them. If it took the heat out of the fire, how did it burn the ones that threw them into the furnace? King Nebuchadnezzar then had to ask the three men to come out. After seeing that the three men survived, this king changed his ways and said the people now were going to praise their God. Sometimes, the Lord wants to save that enemy in your life. He wants to save that enemy on your job or in your home. Even though you wanted deliverance, God wanted to deliver them! Nebuchadnezzar himself was delivered! How does this tie in to Mother’s Day?

The same way these boys were trained and reared, when they got to be young men, they did the same thing. They did not conform to the ways of the foreign land that they were in. They didn’t give up on their God. They didn’t bow down to the enemy. Even though momma couldn’t see them when they were out of her house, they still remembered what she taught them. Pastor Terrell stated that because they did this, they were delivered from their enemy which was also the enemy of God. In addition, the king was delivered and changed his counsellors. God wants your enemy to see Him bless you and save you and make you more than a conqueror! The king said that, “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.” The Lord was all in it! After all the dust settled and they went through all that they had to go through, Nebuchadnezzar called a big meeting. “Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.” God is able! In your circumstance, the Lord is in the midst, so be glad that you don’t look like what you have been through! Glory Be To God!
