Special to the Citizen:

The Madison-Morgan Cultural Center is excited to announce fun and educational Summer Art Classes with instructor and artist Leslie Ryals.  Students of many ages are invited to experience Meet the Masters!  Come be inspired by two incredible artists, Georges Seurat and Georgia O’Keeffe, and learn the techniques they used to create masterpieces!  This summer series is a great way for children to get familiar with different media and techniques, and work one on one with an amazing art teacher. Leslie Ryals has over 10 years of teaching experience and is currently the art teacher at Morgan County Primary School, where she has taught since 2009. In addition to teaching, she conducts private art lessons. Mrs. Ryals holds a Bachelor of Science in Art Education from Georgia Southern University.

The Madison-Morgan Cultural Center Meet the Masters consists of two different weeks of art classes.  Beginning the week of June 22 with Dot to Dot, students will focus on French post-Impressionist Georges Seurat. They will find out how dots can be used to create art, study examples of pointillism and stippling, and practice these techniques before creating a final drawing or painting. The second week starts July 13 and is called The Bones and the Beautiful. During this session students will focus on American modernist painter Georgia O’Keeffe. Students will study various pieces by the artist, begin by drawing from provided examples, and create a final painting in the style of Georgia O’Keefe.  Each weekly class runs Monday through Thursday and consists of two different time spots separated into different age groups: 9:30 a.m. – 11a.m. (Class for rising second to fourth Graders) 11:30 p.m. – 1 p.m. (Class for rising fifth to seventh Graders)  An individual weekly class costs $85. For more information or to register, contact Deanna Lamar at the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center, 706-342-4743 ext. 30 or dlamar@mmcc-arts.org or visit the Cultural Center website, www.mmcc-arts.org.  Classes are filling up fast, so we hope to see you for Meet the Masters!
