“Full Moon Kayak Tour,” Thursday, July 2nd, Friday, July 31 – 8:30 pm to 10 p.m. – Join a guided tour of Lake Rutledge and enjoy a peaceful paddle under a bright moon. Listen for night sounds, enjoy the night sky and learn about the history of Hard Labor Creek State Park. Register in advance. The program will proceed if it is cloudy or light drizzle. All participants meet at the boat dock by the beach. $15 plus $5 parking. 706-557-3001
“Star Spangled Wagon Ride,” Saturday, July 4 – 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Join a park ranger before you fire up the grill on Independence Day for a wagon ride around the park. Learn fun facts about Hard Labor Creel and the history of the area while celebrating the birth of our great country! Wagon rides last approximately 25 minutes. First come, first serve basis. $5 plus $5 parking. 706-557-3001
“Hard Labor Creek Volunteer Saturday” Saturday, July 11 – 3 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. – Hard Labor Creek State Park holds many natural treasures that need our help to shine! Join parks staff as we enhance our park’s beauty by clearing invasive species and restoring habitats for future generations of people and wildlife to enjoy. Meet at the park Office/Trading Post. “Bike Trails Work and Ride,” Saturday, July 11 – 9 a.m. – Join park staff and volunteers for some time spent working on the bike trail and a guided trail ride afterwards. If you assist with trail work there is no charge for the ride.
“’Get Outdoors’ Star Gazing Kayak Tour”, Friday July 17, Saturday, July 18 – 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. – Lake Rutledge is a great place to enjoy night sounds, star-gazing, and paddling. Learn about the history of the park, identify different frog calls and constellations in the sky. The program will proceed if it is cloudy. There is a $15 per participant program fee, and a $5.00 parking fee. Space is limited, pre-registration required. For more information, or questions, call 706-557-3001.
“Home School Day at Hard Labor Creek,” Wednesday, July 22 – 1:30 p.m. – 3 p.m. – Join a park ranger and learn about the natural sciences and get some fun physical fitness by doing a variety of activities at Hard Labor Creek State Park. Each month will cover a different topic, and this month’s topic is “Art in the Park”, an introduction to painting in nature. Please register in advance. “Atlanta Audubon Beginners Bird Walk,” Friday, July 24 – 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. – This field trip is designed for anyone interested in learning more about birds, habitats critical to some species and organizations like the Audubon Society which are dedicated to bird conservation. Meet at the Park Office/Trading Post. Donations of bird seed for the park bird feeder are welcome. $5 parking. 706-557-3001
“A Walk in the Woods,” Friday, July 24 – 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. – Join a park ranger on a one mile hike along the Brantley Trail. Learn more about the Brantley family who settled in the early 1800’s while enjoying the beauty of twilight along this beautiful trail. Meet at the park office. $5 plus $5 parking. 706-557-3001
“Twilight Time Wagon Ride,” Saturday, July 25 – 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. – Join park staff and volunteers on this quaint tour through the park’s history in an old-fashioned wagon. Learn about the Civilian Conservation Corps, visit an old black-smith shop, and possibly see or hear the wildlife that call the park home. “Georgia State Astronomy – Observatory Open House”, Saturday July 25, 9 p.m. – 11 p.m. – The Georgia State Observatory will have an open house each month.
