A lifelong Floridan, Mary Jane Bryan was born and raised in Miami, Florida and Hendersonville, North Carolina, where her family had a summer home. She was the daughter of Edward F. White and Nancy Cooper White. Mary Jane graduated from Miami Edison High School, and attended Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida, where she was named “most beautiful’ on campus. She later worked at the college for 12 years in the Business Registar’s offices. Mary Jane was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church, Lakeland, and a member of the Junior League of Greater Lakeland serving as President 1955-56. She remained involved as a Sustaining Member for many years. Up into her 90s, Mary Jane volunteered for her church, as well as the local library. She was a voracious reader and contributor to her book group, and an avid bridge player. She was married to Ralph W. Meton, deceased, and Roderick N. Bryan, deceased. She is survived by her children: Barbara Melton Groover of Madison, Georgia and R William Melton, Jr., and his wife Marie of Tallahassee, Florida, and stepson Roderick N. Bryan. III, and his wife , Suzanne Bryan of Pinson, Alabama. Grandchldren are Amy Groover Streelman, and her husband, Jeffrey Tood Streelman of Atlanta, Georgia, Julian A. Groover, and Haley Suzanne Bryan of Pinson, Alabama. Great-grandchildren are Landon Wood Groover, of Madsion, Georgia, Archer Elizabeth and Seamus Todd Streelman, of Atlanta, Georgia.
For all she was able to do and see in a long and full life, we probably best remember Mary Jane as a strong presence in our lives, and a loving and loyal wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. The family is thankful to have had her in our lives for so many years, and greatful for her many friends that were a part of our lives as well.
