Morgan’s varsity basketball team has put themselves on the statewide map of programs that other AAA schools will have to contend with for many years. If you look down the ladder to the Lady Dogs JV squad they are currently undefeated at 8-0 so it seems that the future continues to bode well for the girls. This past weekend the JV girls defeated Hart County 44-36. Coach Brett Bell said, “It was a tough game, but despite being down in the fourth quarter, our girls closed on a 10-0 run with the full court press allowing us to force turnovers and get easy buckets. They would not be denied and found a way to win.” Freshman Alisha Ellis led the scoring with 12 points and Liz Couch with 11. Aris Hubbard anchored the defense with multiple blocked shots in the contest. Saturday saw the team whipping up on Laney 51-36. Ellis again led the offensive assault with 19 points (17 in the first half). Bell again commented, “This was probably the most complete game we have played as a team all year. Everyone on the entire team contributed in the win. I want to point out Cailee Anderson, Victoria Chapman, and Kayce Kimsey as players making huge strides in practice that is translating into game performance. with 14, Cooper eight, and Carter along with Moore contributed seven in the loss.
