Greetings from The Springs! USBC had the great pleasure of helping prepare AJ Ferrell for his departure to the military. He is the son of AJ Ferrell, Jr. and Sanay Lumpkin and he has decided to join the U.S. Army. This fine young man has made a great choice in his life and we wish him God’s speed with this endeavor. I told him on Sunday that he has the entire church family joining him with our prayers. Sister Karen Evans is in the process of organizing a local mission trip in Eatonton in March of this year. As I get more details on this event, I will share them with you. I have been meaning to tell you that Victoria Town made the Dean’s List at the University of Georgia this past semester. This straight-A student is the beautiful daughter of Prophetess Janice Town who preached two nights of our last revival. Let us continue to lift her up in prayer as she continues with her education. Our pulpit guest on Sunday was Minister Edith Sandoval from Wallace Grove Baptist Church. Many were happy to see her and USBC looks forward to seeing her again. On Sunday, January 10, 2016, Pastor Robert Terrell gave us the final installment in his series, “Standing against the Tricks of the Devil.” This week’s the emphasis was on Ephesians 6: 14-17 and we learned how to stand our ground. Pastor Terrell began by stating that we need to separate the person from the devil that is using them. Our attack is on the enemy and not on the individual. We are wrestling against all the ranks of the devil and his ranks are organized. In turn, we must be properly prepared. The Word is often our weapon of offense, but it is to be used defensively, too. Before going to battle, we have to get ourselves shored up with what we need. This is like putting on a girdle or a utility belt. You need to strap up as you look at the journey ahead to know what you will need. Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.”

The Word became flesh. The Truth is the manifestation of the Word. The same way God showed up the last time for you, He will show up again. The Truth is that manifested thing that you have already seen. When your back was against the wall, God worked it out for you. After you get yourself braced, put on the breastplate of righteousness. So, what makes us just? The grace of God does. You do this by confessing Jesus is Lord of your life and submitting to His will for your life. His sacrifice on Calvary makes us just. Now, you can try to keep all of the laws in the Bible and attend church every day, but none of this makes you righteous. The only thing that will is your faith in God. When the enemy comes at you, plead the blood of Jesus. God will pick you up and make you clean. Next, Pastor Terrell said to “shod your feet with the gospel of peace.” Keep in mind that there are times when sin will catch us unaware. However, doing the same sin repeatedly does not. You cannot stand against the devil in sin.

Another way to look at this is you cannot accuse the devil of lying when he is telling the truth. Think about this! Your feet have to be ready to run to the gospel of peace. To make peace with God you have to repent of your sins. For your feet to be prepared, you have to turn from sin. Verse 16 speaks of the shield of faith. This is where we must be able to withstand. (This subject was in the sermon last week.) The devil will throw all types of temptations at you but you must stand against them. It is easy to stand against the stuff that you really do not want, but when you are being tempted, you have to withstand. Your help for this comes in the form of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Ghost will come in and put out the temptations. As we move through this passage, let us not forget to take the helmet of salvation. Often, this part of the armor is the one that we will leave. Although we are Christians and know where we are going when God calls us home, we are not ready to go. Yet, nothing confuses the enemy any more than when we have joy and are not worrying about how he is trying to destroy us. The enemy cannot understand us being joyful about our journey to heaven. Don’t be afraid! Since we have our salvation, we can be jubilant.

We do not have to worry when we have fixed it with Jesus. The final piece of the armor is the Sword of the Spirit and this is the Word of the Lord. Okay, at this point you may be wondering how you can pick up your Bible with all of your armor on and your hands full with the shield and the sword. Know the Word! Quote the Word! Learn what is in the Bible by studying! When you know it, you can tell the enemy what the Word of God says when he comes against you. To sum up this fantastic sermon, we need to shore ourselves up and get our tools ready. Next, we need to put on the breastplate of righteousness by confessing that Jesus is Lord of our lives and covering our feet with the preparation of peace. As we take our helmet of salvation, we must have with us the shield of faith and the sword. When standing against the tricks of the devil, prepare to stand your ground! Glory Be To God! When standing against the tricks of the devil, prepare to stand your ground! Glory Be To God.
