The Lady Dogs had only one game this week against 8-AAA foe East Jackson High School coming away with an easy 76-29 win. The contest was never in doubt as Morgan used their early pressing style to take a 25-0 lead in the first quarter. Coach Josh Reeves commented, “We put up a big number in the first quarter by using our press to convert defense into offense. This game allowed us to work a lot of girls in with more extended minutes at game speed which is very important for them as we move toward the home stretch of our schedule. They were able to play through all the game situations and run the offense.” Pumpkin Brown led all scorers with 16, but the play of Jatariea Bryant most impressed Reeves, “She had a great game for us scoring nine for the night while rebounding and playing some nice defense in the post.” Other scorers for the Lady Dogs included Lou Reed with eight, Tot Davis, Sydney Nash, and Brittany Belser each with seven, and subs Sarah Couch along with Autumn Woodard scoring six and five respectively. Reeves made these final comments, “Our strength really is trapping in the middle of the court even though we get a lot of production out of our 1-2-2 press utilizing our three quick guards to create quick turnovers. We are working on some different looks defensively to take advantage of that strength. With the win and two losses this week by Dawson County, the girls have moved into the first place ranking of both the Atlanta Journal Constitution and Score Atlanta polls.
