As Coach John Robbins summed it up, “It was a tough, tough day. We were right where we wanted to be and unfortunately missed our opportunity against Jackson, as we were tied going into the last two bouts. It was one of the most intense duals I’ve ever coached in. We responded well by winning out and taking third again, which leaves us one place short of our goal of returning to Macon for the State Duals. Our two region representatives (Jefferson and Jackson) are seeded first and second in the state and are expected to meet again in the state finals. We are in a very tough region. All of our kids wrestled well, but I’m particularly proud of Mason Adams, Garner Drummond, and Jody McAlister, who were all 4-0 on the day.” Here’s a summary of the results for Morgan’s Mat Dogs. – Quarter finals: defeated Hart 66-3 – Semifinals: lost to Jackson 28-42 – Consolation Semifinals: defeated Elbert 54-21 – Consolation Finals: defeated Oconee 45-34 Note: Jefferson (the 8-AAA region dual champions) went on to win the AAA State Duals by defeating Jackson County (the 8-AAA region duals runner-up) in the state finals.later in the season.
