“In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” Jesus’ words ring truer for those who have suffered long in this life… whose days of suffering out number those of joy. And while it’s true that the road to Heaven is paved with tribulation, the ultimate goal is victory, for as the Apostle Paul wrote, “the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed.” It is with sadness and joy that we celebrate such a victory, the passing into glorious eternity of Clara Bell Mitchem. She was a Godly woman whose spiritual strength grew through physical suffering. Her earthly life began on October 13, 1919, but Saturday morning, January 16, 2016 began a new life for her… a welcoming home… a life without pain, burdens or tears… an eternity of freedom and an up close view of her Savior, to whom she has surely said, “you have been my God through all of this.” Left to remember her are her children: Eugene (Diane) Mitchem, Debbie (Dean) Tillery, her son-in-law, Robert (Bob) Varnes, nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband, Emmitt Mitchem, her daughter, Mary Ellen Varnes, and her son, Ronnie Mitchem. A. E. Carter had charge of the arrangements. There will be a private family memorial service.
