Gloria Gibbs Hitchcock, age 90 of Statham, passed away Monday, February 1, 2016. She was a member of The Winder First United Methodist Church. Gloria earned her Bachelors of Science Degree in education at The Georgia College for Women in Milledgeville and a Library of Science Degree at The University of Georgia. She was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma and The Daughters of The American Revolution. She was a teacher and librarian working for both Gwinnett and Barrow County School Systems. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, David L. Hitchcock; a daughter, Sara “Sally” Frances Hitchcock; a brother Malcolm A. Gibbs and a sister and brother-in-law, Druellyn and Evan Walker. She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Wilson (Bill) of Winder; three grandchildren, Jennifer Moss (Drew) of Rome, Drew Hackney of Rutledge and Jim Kelley of Winder; a great-grandchild, Mary Leonard Moss of Rome; a sister-in-law, Ann Pace of Rutledge and nieces and nephew, which include, Lynn Walker Treadwell of Madison, Steve Pace, Patsy Pace Maines and Debbie Pace of Rutledge, Ann and James Anderson of Mableton, Sandra and Ray Cashwell, Panama City Beach and a number of other nieces and nephews and cousins who will all miss her. A memorial service will be held at 4:00PM Saturday, February 6, 2016 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home, Winder, GA. Interment will follow in Bostwick Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Winder First United Methodist Church, Gentiva Hospice or Mulberry Grove Retirement Home in memory of Mrs. Hitchcock.
