Calling all me…

The greatest untapped resource in our local church is the men. Men need to know that someone believes in them. Men need to be encouraged. I heard someone say several years ago, “If you see a turtle on a fencepost, know he didn’t get there by himself.”

Men also need to be challenged to grow spiritually to become the men that God has created us to be. The discipleship of men is a continual and constant need. Strong marriages make strong families that make strong churches that make strong communities that make strong nations.

I would like to invite all the men of Morgan County, and beyond, to join me at Centennial Baptist Church for the 15th annual Men’s Conference on Friday, March 4 and Saturday, March 5. The theme for this year’s conference is “Battleground: A Trilogy of Men’s Struggles.” There will be a steak dinner, large group session and breakout groups on Friday night. There will be a light breakfast, two large group sessions and a set of small breakout groups on Saturday morning. We will finish around noon on Saturday with door prizes.

As men, we work hard at our jobs, but tend to be passive about the things that matter most … faith, family and personal responsibility. There may be a million reasons as to why this is the case. But the biggest reason is that as men we have bought into the lies from our culture about what it means to be a man. As men, we all struggle in some of the same areas. This year’s men’s conference is an opportunity for us to help one another and help ourselves become victorious in Christ over our struggles.

Worship will be led both days by the Matt Duren band. Matt is a worship leader at Eagles Landing First Baptist Church. Conference speakers include Thomas Hammond (Ga Baptist Convention President), Levi Skipper (Concord Baptist Church; Clermont, GA), Steve Parr, Danny Singleton, Joe Veal and others. If you are reading this article and you are a lady, would you prayerfully consider encouraging your husband, father, brother or pastor to bring a group of men to the men’s conference at Centennial Baptist Church.

More information about the conference as well as online registration can be found at You can also contact the church office at 706-557-2120.
