Jessica Laird Pollard McLean was born on December 5, 1942 in Manhattan-New York City, New York. Her parents were Jim and Dorthy Pollard. She was married to Paul Ray McLean who passed away on May 14, 2015. Her daughter is Amy K. McLean, PhD.
Jessica was an accomplished sculpture who attended Center College in Danville, Kentucky for her Bachelor’s of Fine Art, with two minors, one in English and the other in Psychology. She then went on to attend the Heatherley School of Art in London and then her Masters of Fine Arts from Pratt Institute Brooklyn, New York with a major in sculpture, minor in Graphics and painting. Jessica had a heart of gold and went to great lengths to help both people and animals. She was an outstanding mother who always encouraged her daughter to seek her dreams and through her free spirit and love to travel, helped inspire her daughter to seek research and volunteer opportunities in developing countries. She her self had traveled to 42 countries from Afghanistan to Iran to roof tops of Turkey and Greece. She saw the beauty in all people and yet found how often we are so inhumane to one another and often we are so much kinder to our pets in end of the life decisions than we are to one another.
Jessica stood up for what was right and instilled that spirit in Amy. She will be greatly missed as an amazing mother and was the greatest gift and wife ever to her husband, who she cared for him and their families’ farm often putting her own health aside. Jessica McLean found peace and is no longer suffering from a bout with an aggressive form of breast cancer (stage 4) on February 7th. Her family is forever grateful for the outstanding and compassionate care that was provided by the staff of Genetiva Hospice Center at Athens Regional during the last week of her life. I love you dearly mom! Bridges Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of arrangements.
