Special to the Citizen
The Madison-Morgan Conservancy is excited to announce that the annual Derby Day fundraising event will be held at historic Bonar Hall again this year, in picturesque Madison, Georgia! Named one of the eight best Derby Parties in the country, two years running, this year’s event is one not to miss. Saturday, May 7, 2016 is Derby Day. Tickets go on sale April 1st to the general public. Guarantee your tickets now by sponsoring or joining the Host Committee – Derby Day sells out each year! Bonar Hall, a c. 1839 13-acre estate is the ideal location for the Conservancy’s annual event. This grand ante-bellum home is an architectural gem and has undergone little modification since being built.
Current owners, Betsy Wagenhauser and Alex Newton, have recently restored the house and continue to refine the landscape, which includes tree-lit grounds, a formal boxwood garden, and historic dependencies, through which party-goers meander. Derby Day 2016 includes a tour of Bonar Hall, live streaming of the Kentucky Derby, Bourbon tastings, a beer garden, delicious Derby Supper by Epting Events, live auction, best dressed and best hat competitions, and weather permitting, the Derby Dash will return with a new twist! New this year (in addition to the new beer garden), the Conservancy will host a Hat Consignment Sale prior to Derby Day. Need to buy or sell a Derby hat before the big day (which is less than two months away)? Join the Derby Day organizers on Thursday, March 24, 2016, from 7-9 PM at 162 N. Main Street in downtown Madison to enjoy wine and light hors d’oeuvres while you shop with friends. All are invited. Do you have a Derby Hat to consign? If so, price it to sell and split your proceeds with the Conservancy. Drop off your hat at the Conservancy office Monday, March 21st through Wednesday, March 23rd during the hours of 10 AM to 4 PM. Then, join us Thursday, March 24th at 7 PM to shop!
