What gorgeous weather we are having…perfect, spring weather! I can’t help but wonder if we are going to end up paying for this?! At any rate, if it does get cold again, we can take comfort in the fact that the real spring is just around the corner. One of my Grandma’s weather sayings was that the “peepers” had to be driven back three times before you knew spring was here. Peepers meaning the little tree frogs, I presume. One night about three weeks ago when Bruce and I were going down the driveway, I thought I heard this high-pitched sound. I rolled down the window and sure enough it was the “peepers!” When we went across the creek last night I rolled the window down again and I heard a few that time. Hopefully I will hear them the third time! As long as I don’t hear Glenn Burns or any of the other weather forecasters talking about an “Arctic Blast” or the “Polar Express” barreling in, I think we will make it!
Those words send shivers down my spine! The Bethany and Buckhead community was saddened to hear of the passing of E.J. Bell this past week. E.J. was the son of the late Lester and Ruby Nell Bell and had lived in the Bethany community all of his life, I believe. He had been in bad health for some time. His graveside services were held on this Monday morning at the Buckhead cemetery. We extend our thoughts and prayers to all of his family at this time. We also learned of the passing of Mrs. Frances Huff’s husband, George Harmon, in Florida this past week also. We extend our sympathy and prayers to her and his family at this time. Martha, Matthew, and Mary Martha Maddox were down this past week spending time in the country with Mary and Frank Eaton. They all enjoyed time with Franklin and Stacy Eaton and their girls in Flowery Branch while here and helped Sabrina and Sophie celebrate their birthdays. Frank Maddox, who grew up here in the Fairview Community and has been teaching at Oxford College at Emory for many years, is on a school trip to Ecuador and other places in that region with a group of students. He sent his family a picture of him having a foot on either side of the equator! Frank is planning on retiring from teaching in May. All of the children of the late Nell and Bill Porter had a get-together at Janice and Chuck Philippi’s on Sunday for a delicious lunch. Sarah Nell and Steve Craig, the Dan Porter’s and Julie Gay and Joe Sabbadino with their son, David of Greenville, SC all enjoyed catching up. Julia Gay, Joe, and David also enjoyed visiting with Blanche and Jake Wilson in the afternoon.
