Buckhead Town Council held its monthly meeting this past Monday to discuss some old business, including what should be done with the Old Town Hall. Resident, Star Shepard proposed renovating the old hall and discussed the possibility of having a farmer’s market there in the future. “I’m on a mission to save Town Hall,” Shepard says. “When we moved here, I found the structure charming… So, I am here today to find out what we can do to save it.”
Shepard proposed starting a fundraiser as many other residents have voiced their opinion on saving and restoring Town Hall. There is also a possibility of obtaining a grant to fund the restoration of it that Shepard will potentially look into. Among other items discussed were repairing sidewalks within the town. Mayor Ricky Walker and other council members will set aside a day to walk and mark sidewalks that need repairs. Walker will later contact a contractor to make those repairs. There was also brief discussion on Old Buckhead Days. The 5K will take place April 2 and there will be early pick up for race bags that Friday, April 1 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Buckhead Fire Station. The Old Buckhead Days race has been growing over the years and they expect for the number of runners and vendors to continue to grow going into that weekend. “You wouldn’t believe the amount of people that come down here that want to run,” Walker says. “That beats all I’ve ever seen… It’s been getting bigger and bigger every year.” It is expected to be another good year for Old Buckhead Days and anyone is welcome to participate in the race or come hangout that day.
