Morgan’s Soccer Lady Dogs took two big wins this week against Region 8-AAA foe Hart County 10-0 and another one vs. non-region opponent Greene County 10-0. The wins lead them into a huge week of region play against Oconee County with both teams sporting an undefeated 5-0 region record. This game will open up an opportunity for the Lady Dogs to position themselves for a number one or two seed in the 8-AAA region competition. If the girls can pull out a much-needed win against the Lady Warriors, it would put them in a situation to defeat East Jackson on Friday and get the number one seed. Should they lose to Oconee, they can still hold the number two seed if they come up with a victory on Friday. Head Coach Anne Stamps said, “Our first goal of the year has been to host the first round of the state tournament and we can do that if we take care of business this week. We start the week off Tuesday with a very tough and physical Alcovy team Tuesday. Wednesday will be a grand finale for both Morgan and Oconee as it will have a huge impact on final seeding for the tournament. It will be a showdown for sure between two very good teams, but we definitely have to show up with our A game.”

On April 5th the boys’ soccer team beat Hart County for their second region win. Carter Atchison scored midway through the first half and Tristin Sewell scored with 16 minutes left in the game in the second half to put the dogs ahead 2-1 and the eventual win. Coach Aaron Paul commented, “Both Carter and Tristin played very well. Sewell played extremely well after being out since the Jefferson game with an injury. The defense played very well with freshmen Ben Adams getting some time and playing extremely well. Zach Howe was solid at goal keeper all night and our midfield rotated between Carlos Hernandez, Patrick Griffin, Andrew Watkins, Nick Seymour, and Luke Biscoglia. This game was a must win in order to keep our playoff hopes for the season alive.” On Friday April 8th the boys’ soccer team beat Greene County 10-0 ending the game due to score limit with about 10 minutes left in the second half. The game against Greene was senior night.

First year player and senior John Wyatt scored first in the contest followed by Evan Watkins, Tristin Sewell, and Luke Biscoglia to put the score at 4-0 at halftime. In the second half, first year player and senior goal keeper, Zach Howe scored followed by another senior Carter Atchison who scored twice within about 30 seconds with 14 minutes to go in the contest. Then Nick Seymour scored with 13 minutes to go, followed by Biscogloa, and finally Ravi Patel ended the game with the 10th goal with 10:40 left on the clock. Paul commented, “It was an exciting game to watch, especially for our seniors. I was glad everyone was healthy and able to play for most of the game. I was especially proud of the younger guys for helping to make the night a memorable one for our seniors.

Having only coached the seniors for two years, I will hate to see every single one of them move on. I wish that I could have another two years with them because we are in the process of trying to build something special with our boys’ team in the next few years. Carter, Luke, Zach, Evan, Rus, and John all make coaching the boys’ soccer team much more special and I am going to miss them next year.”
