Special to the Citizen
Yeehaw! Spring has sprung and so has the time for good ‘ole rodeo fun. Come witness tradition at its very best. Cowboys and cowgirls battling it out on horses and bulls as each grabs their toughest old west attitude to prove that they are the cream of the crop in their rodeo event. You can enjoy hearing the swish of the lariat as it is expertly sent sailing through the air, or the slap of the stirrup leather as a rider fuels his mount’s rankness; watch as cowgirls and horses speed as one around barrels and breathe in the heavenly aroma of hamburgers and hotdogs cooking on the grill … mmm! What a night! The Greene County Livestock Association and the Greene County Extension have worked together all year long to bring to you the 18th Annual Greene County Pro Rodeo put on by Bubba Oubre Rodeo Company. Drive on down C. Weldon Smith Road in Greensboro Georgia Friday, April 22, and Saturday April 23 to immerse yourself in western life.
All the fun begins at 8pm both nights for just $10, ages 13 and up, $5 for ages 5 – 12, free for children ages 4 and under. This will be your opportune time to see cowboys and cowgirls vying for the coveted first prize as they match their strength and mental ability with bulls, calves, horses, and timed events. Wait there’s more- the clown will be traveling to the covered Greene County Ag Center with the intent of having you fall over in the bleachers with uncontrollable laughter. Of course we know that laughter uses many muscles which uses calories which creates a powerful hunger. We will have a remedy for that at our famous concession stands. Everyone knows we cook delicious hamburgers and hotdogs with a side of scrumptious french fries. As usual, there will be candy and homemade goodies too plus popcorn, funnel cakes, boiled peanuts and many beverages to choose from to wash it all down.
Want to feel like a cowboy or cowgirl – you can rope a deal at the Cowboy Corner – boots, shirts, cowboy hats, toys and of course lariats! Rodeos are for sure fun and take us back to a point in time when cowboys earned their livings doing the kinds of work you will see going on in our rodeo. Our annual rodeo is twofold – a fun night out for you and your family for a reasonable price and a night you can be thankful for the fact that a portion of your rodeo ticket will go to some well deserving groups in Greene County and in Georgia plus the proceeds make it possible to have three Junior Rodeos in Greene County every single year for the youth of the county and surrounding area. We wish to thank the Georgia Farm Bureau, Doc 103.9, United Tower Company, Pennington Seed Grotech and Embry Farm Service for sponsoring the Greene County Pro Rodeo. Whether the sky is stormy or full of beautiful stars, come ready to have a carefree evening full of fun at the Greene County Ag Center covered arena In Greensboro, Georgia. See you there!
