The boys’ soccer team played with a lot of emotion against the number six team in AAA, Oconee County, last week losing 1-0.  The Warriors have traditionally been an upper tier team in the state rankings sometimes defeating Morgan in recent years by large margins.  The Dogs were in this one from the opening horn.  If not for a late second-half score by Oconee from the left side this one could have gone into overtime.

Morgan played great defense in the middle winning balls and fighting for their lives against a talented team.  Zack Howe was a horse in the goal with numerous saves that kept his team in the game even though the Dogs mounted few serious threats on goal during the night.  It was a physical game and a tough loss for Morgan.

In the girls’ game, it was another great outing with the Lady Dogs losing 2-1.  Coach Anne Stamps said, “It was a well fought game. We were 0-0 at halftime.  We had a controversial shot in the last five minutes of the game and were not awarded a goal. That goal would have had us tied 2-2.  I was very proud of my girls for playing hard for 80 minutes. I couldn’t have asked for more effort.

The defense had a remarkable game. Alishia Frierson had an awesome game in the goal.

Our sole goal for the night was off a set piece from the corner. Anslyn Stamps assisted to Susanna Peppers right outside the 18’ and Susanna nailed it. It was beautiful.”

On Friday the girls played their final game of the regular season against East Jackson, defeating them with a score of 7-1. Every person on the team was able to play and contribute to that win. Stamps commented, “It was a fun night to round out our regular season. We will have spring break this week and get a much needed break to relax and recover for the post season. When we return on Monday after spring break we will have four days to practice before the first round match of the state.  We set a goal for ourselves at the beginning of the season and that was to host the first round of state and we sealed that deal this week. We are the number two seed in 8AAA. We will host on April 29th. The opponent & time has not been established yet.”
