Cameron Hampton Workshop Series

The Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation (OCAF) is offering a unique series of one-day Saturday workshops with Cameron Hampton. Workshops are taught in a casual studio environment with hands-on demonstrations and individual assistance by the instructor. You can take just one class or all (separate fee for each) as each class will focus on a different medium and/or technique. Workshops are currently offered in Drawing, Painting (Multi-Media), Watercolor, Pastels and Sculpture. Writing the Personal Essay The Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation (OCAF) is currently offering a literary arts class, “Writing the Personal Essay” with award winning Georgia writer, Dana Wildsmith. Personal essays allow us to share our life experiences, strengths, struggles, and beliefs with others and are often required as a part of college and scholarship applications. Learn how to write about your insights and reflections, personal growth and goals, decisions and responses to events, even your favorite activities or books in a way that is both engaging and articulates the point you are trying to communicate. •Madison Artists Guild is now selling $30 tickets for those wanting to buy a piece of THE GREAT ART WALL OF MADISON.

Tickets also available at Barkin’ Dogs Shoe Co and the Painted Pineapple in Icehouse Creative. Only a limited number of tickets will be sold. Come to the party on May 14th where the entire wall will be displayed. Each ticket holder will receive one of the original art squares in a drawing until all squares are matched to the tickets. The Athens Youth Symphony will present a Spring Concert on Sunday, May 1 at 4:00 p.m. in Hugh Hodgson Concert Hall of the UGA Performing Arts Center. The concert will feature young musicians from all over North Georgia in works by von Suppé, Tchaikovsky, Respighi, Copland, and Stravinsky, and will feature violinist Mayu Takeuchi in Saint-Saëns’ Violin Concerto No. 3.  The concert is free and open to the public. Beacon Heights Baptist Church in Madison will Host a Vacation Bible School Kick-off and Registration Event May 22 from 6-8pm. We will have 2 bounce houses, cotton candy, snow cones, and popcorn. This event is free. Come register your children for Vacation Bible School and enjoy the fun. Vacation Bible School will be June 5-10 from 6-8:30pm each night. There will be snacks, games, music, and Bible Stories for ages 3 years thru 6th grade. June 10th will be our family night program with refreshments.

The 33rd Annual Rutledge Fair in Downtown Rutledge will be held on Saturday, May 28,  from 9 AM to 4 PM.  There will be an old fashioned parade of vintage cars and tractors honoring our military, and a beach-themed golf cart competition on Fairplay Street. Mr. Rutledge and Little Miss Rutledge (presented by Rutledge Wings) will also be in the parade, and will be crowned following the parade at the gazebo. There will be arts and crafts, antiques, and other vendors throughout City Park, a bounce house and other inflatables for kids, kids games and activities, live music by MaCayla Cook, Horace Reeves, The Madisonaires, Tim Saye, and Coley (Nicole Jones), dancers, and Rutledge Idol competition (presented by Yesterday’s Cafe at the gazebo in City Park).  There will also be book signings by Poet John Charles Griffin, and Authors Molly Lesnikowski and Dave Belton.
