A South Carolina man died tragically last Thursday in a two–vehicle accident on Interstate 20.
According to Sgt. Justin Howard, Georgia State Patrol, Michael Joseph Lowder, 24, Blythewood, S.C. was driving eastbound in Interstate 20 enroute to his sister’s Saturday wedding when the the fatal crash occurred.
Howard said at approximately 9:50 p.m. a 2006 Nissan Maxima driven by Lauryn Nicole Bazel, 23, Hopkins, S.C. crossed over the median and became air–born before striking the 2006 Dodge Dakota pickup truck driven by Lowder in the side above the frame line.
Howard said authorities believe Lowder died instantaneously from injuries in the crash.
Bazel and her sister, Jazmin Saree Bazel, 25, a passenger in the Nissan, were both trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by emergency workers. Both women were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, Howard said, and did not sustain fatal injuries.
Howard said the incident has been turned over to the Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team. Howard said the Bazel sisters were cooperating fully with investigators and there appears to be no suspicion of impairment. He added, however, that there could be charges filed if warranted.
“The investigation is on–going to determine the reason the vehicle crossed the median,” Howard said.
