The 2016 Junior Golf Tour has nine events held throughout Georgia and Hard Labor Creek hosted the last one with over 30 golfers from around the state participating from as far away as Valdosta. The event included golfers from the age of 10-18 in a two day event. PGA golf pro at HLC, Karl Gross, is the tour director for the entire state and has been involved with Junior Golf for many years. He seemed very pleased with the outcome, participation, and results. There are nine total events starting in March that allow these aspiring golfers to improve their game and possibly get noticed by college coaches.
There are fees involved, but if you are interested in getting your child involved you can contact firstname.lastname@example.org, or by phone at 706-557-3006. Mr. Gross can give you all the details. The tour teaches sportsmanship, fair play, and character as these youngsters enjoy playing the game and learning the rules of golf.
In this past weekend’s tournament there were six local athletes that competed in the tournament. Tiffany Masdon from Social Circle who attends Piedmont, Jared Sanders and Landon Breedlove from Morgan County Middle School, Stephen Bishop from Covington, and Zach Kinnon who attends Social Circle High School all participated. Masdon won the closest to the pin on Saturday for her 19-21 women’s age group and finished first, but there were no other competitors in that age group. Breedlove grabbed a first place finish with an 89-93 total of 182. Kinnon also got a first place finish in the 16-18 age division with scores of 79-73 for a 152 total.
