Looking for something fun to do during the hot summer months? The Painted Pineapple will be open to walk-ins for creative fun!  Simply drop-in during our Open Studio hours and create. Open Studio consists of process art for a small studio fee or choose from a variety of pre prepped crafts and projects priced based on project.

• Oconee Cultural Arts

Foundation Cameron Hampton Workshop Series

The Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation (OCAF) is offering a unique series of one-day Saturday workshops with Cameron Hampton. Workshops are taught in a casual studio environment with hands-on demonstrations and individual assistance by the instructor. You can take just one class or all (separate fee for each) as each class will focus on a different medium and/or technique. Workshops are currently offered in Drawing, Painting (Multi-Media), Watercolor, Pastels and Sculpture. Writing the Personal Essay The Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation (OCAF) is currently offering a literary arts class, “Writing the Personal Essay” with award winning Georgia writer, Dana Wildsmith. Personal essays allow us to share our life experiences, strengths, struggles, and beliefs with others and are often required as a part of college and scholarship applications. Learn how to write about your insights and reflections, personal growth and goals, decisions and responses to events, even your favorite activities or books in a way that is both engaging and articulates the point you are trying to communicate. • Madison Al Anon meetings

every Thursday

Al-Anon is a support group for those affected by someone else’s drinking—be it a family member or a friend—who may or may not still be drinking. Meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. each Thursday night at the white building next to the Episcopal Church: 338 Academy St. For more info: 706-431-6013.

• Compassion for Cancer Yoga

Pointe of Grace each Friday from 3 p.m. until 4:15 p.m. Free class. Offered by certified yoga instructor, Allie Bourgeois. This is for cancer patients and survivors. Also open to those with heart disease, diabetes, auto immune deficiency, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis. Also open to care givers such as family members, nurses, hospice & oncology professionals.

Board of Commissioners have a meeting the first Tuesday of the month at 10 a.m. and a work session the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 5 p.m. in the board room at the Board of Commissioners Administrative Building

• 45 Years of Art and Artists:

Works from the Hathia and Andy Hayes Collection

Through August 20 at the Steffen Thomas Museum of Art.  Included in this exhibit are paintings and prints selected from the Hayes’ collection and include works by national and international artists.  Artistic styles range from Expressionistic and Impressionistic to pure abstraction.  Most works were produced from the mid20th to the early 21st centuries.

All Fired UP! Pottery and Ceramic Art from the Hathia and Andrew Hayes

Collection 6 – 8 PM at the Steffen Thomas Museum of Art, Buckhead, GA near Madison. The exhibit includes works by over 20 ceramic artists, including three who have earned the distinction North Carolina Living Treasure, and samples the Hayes Collection of several hundred pieces by contemporary artists from throughout the US, Mexico, England, and Spain. Seagrove potter Ben Owen III will deliver a presentation followed by a gallery talk by the Hayes. Free and open to the public.
