It was a difficult weekend for the Morgan County Middle School Girl’s Softball Team. The team had a hard loss against Loganville, losing 18-10, as the Loganville team came alive in the bottom of the 5th inning. Even though the team had a disappointing loss, there were many highlights in the match. Reign Williams led the team going 3 for 3 with 1 Walk and 2 RBI’s. Sarah Ellen Mercer and Karlie Lane combined to have 2 hits and 4 walks between them. Going into Saturday, The Morgan County Softball team hosted the 1st Annual Diamond Day Tournament, playing Franklin County, Jefferson, and Indian Creek for a Round Robin event.

Playing Franklin first, the girls lost 16-4 due to nine errors made by the team. Reign Williams still shined through going 2 for 2 with one run batted in and a stolen base. Karlie Lane, Sarah Ellen Mercer, and Averi Camp all helped contribute to the team with one hit for each of them.

In the second game against Jefferson, the girls lost 13-3 against the older Jefferson Team. Reign Williams again helped the team and went 1 – 2 with a double. Karlie Lane, Sarah Ellen Mercer, Emma Garrison, and Kori Williams also had a hit in the game.

‘No one likes losing, but I’m happy with where we are as a team.” commented Coach Crawford.

“We are young with a lot to learn about the game, but we are getting better every time we step on the field. I don’t care about the scoreboard. I only care that we are better today than we were yesterday. If you continue to improve, the wins will come. I just appreciate the support I’ve gotten from all the players and parents already this season. All the hard work and sweat will pay off by the season’s end!”
