A 71–year–old woman with a history of mental illness and Alzheimer’s was found sleeping in a car in the same apartment complex from where she had been reported as missing.
According to Det. Wes Thompson, the woman woke up at approximately noon in the car and walked to her apartment.
Reports state that at 1:45 a.m. on August 19 the woman’s grandson reported her as missing. The man said he woke up and checked on his grandmother and she was gone from the apartment. Reports state that after the woman was reported missing a search was completed on a two to three mile grid around the Sulgrave Drive apartment complex. Search efforts included police and fire department personnel.
Authorities also issued a county–wide ’Code Red” alert for the woman.
Thompson said the next day the woman returned to the complex and was not harmed.
