The Junior Varsity Bulldog football team walked all over rival Putnam County this past week with a 28-0 win that was never in doubt.  Morgan won the toss and deferred to the second half.  It turned out to be a good call as Putnam fumbled on the first play of the game.  Justin Hubbard took it to the house on a scoop and score and the Dogs never looked back.

On the second possession of the game the Dogs forced a three and out against the War Eagles.  It only took them five plays to put another touchdown on the board that included a long halfback pass that took the ball down close. That’s when Ethan Stamps hooked up with AJ Stinnett from the eight yard line for the second score of the game.  The two point conversion was good and the lead was 14-0 early in the first quarter.  Putnam never really threatened in the half only crossing midfield twice and Morgan didn’t put together much offense in the second quarter to leave the Dogs ahead at the half 14-0.  However, the defense was stifling for Morgan.

The Dogs took the second half kickoff and drove 57 yards in five plays to put another six points on the board.  The drive was aided by a 38 yard run and eight yard run by Keamondre Hyman for the TD to put the Dogs up 20-0 with 7:35 left in the quarter.  The two-point attempt was no good.  Putnam took the ensuing kickoff and put on their best drive of the afternoon taking the pigskin to the Morgan 45 on an 11-play drive that ended when the Eagles gave it up on downs.  The Dogs’ defense was again stout.

Morgan drove again for another touchdown taking it 60 yards with Justin Hubbard finishing the drive off from the five to push the score to 26-0.  The two-point conversion was a broken play on a bad snap, but Stamps made the most of his athletic ability by diving to the pylon for two to up the Bulldog lead to 28-0 and the final score.

Coach Dusty Sidwell had these comments, “It’s going great with these kids.  They are such a good group that work hard at practice and are highly coachable.  I thought the offense threw the ball well and we made some great catches.  The defense got some good pressure on the quarterback and in the backfield and we made some sound tackles.”
