Authorities are continuing an investigation into the shooting of a Rutledge teen.
According to Capt. Chris Bish, investigations division, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, investigators are continuing to question person at a Hawkins Avenue residence after a 15-year-old male was shot once in the groin.
Bish said a preliminary investigation shows that the teen was holding a .22 caliber pistol when the weapon discharged and shot him.
“We are still interviewing people in the house at the time of the shooting,” Bish said.
The shooting occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Friday, September 16. The youth was rushed to Athens Regional Hospital and was treated and released, Bish said.
The shooting occurred in a bedroom in the residence, Bish said.
Bish said the teen, who’s identity is being protected because he is a juvenile, is a resident of the Hawkins Avenue house and that several friends and family members were present.
