Velma Sims Ferrell was born March 11, 1949 to Grocell and Mildred Dorsey Sims, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her long time companion Frank Hill. She died September 23, 2016. She attended the Morgan County School system. Later in life she gave back to many by working in dietary services. Before she got sick and retired her last place of employment was Social Circle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was a member of Jefferson Baptist Church.
She leaves to cherish her memories A. J. Ferrell Sr. whom she married in 1967; her four children Anthony Ferrell and A. J. Ferrell (Junior) of Atlanta, Lisa Broadnax and Marcus Hill both of Madison. She was also a mother to Secunda, Roderwick “Bro”, Robert and Yolanda Diamond, all of Atlanta, five siblings Mary Sims Martin, Jacqueline Clark, Rosa Lee Sims, Percilla Sims and Ronnie Sims, all of Madison. Her legacy lives on through 17 grandkids, four great grandkids, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends, also along with her friends she considered like sisters Amy Harrison (Arnold) of Augusta and Carrie Huff of Greensboro.
The funeral service for Mrs. Ferrell was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 1, in Jefferson Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were Felton Massey, Donnie Massey, Clarence White, Sir’ Anthony Ferrell, Rirya Ferrell and Peter White. Flower attendants Fascha Ferrell, Chelsea Ferrell, Jada Dumas, Miracle Ferrell, Samayrica Ferrell and Mary Kilgore.
